UK games industry

The UK games industry

The UK games industry is one of the largest games industries in the world. It is home to many different triple A studios such as Crytek, media molecule and Rockstar north just to name a few. The industry started from what we would call today the bedroom programmers. Where people would program on their computers at home, on platforms such as the spectrum and the Sinclair. Currently quite a big indie scene is booming where people are forming together with friends to create games together and are making names for themselves that way and then go on to working for bigger companies with a more secure job.

In the UK the rating system that is used on games is the pegi system, unlike the Australian classification board used by Australia. This is what that age rating system looks like. It is a lot less strict than the Australian counter part and hasn't lead to many games in this country being banned.

The BBFC is also used to rate games released in the UK but pegi is coming into the rating of games more frequently now that this system.
